Random Notions – My First Giveaway!

My day got a late start. I didn’t get to sleep til almost 4am, so I didn’t wake up til almost noon- I hate when that happens.  Because I got such a late start, I didn’t have time to get much done.  I had to go to the post office to mail some books for the swap site I frequent – awesome way to get books cheap, btw – and then I had to get some shopping done.  Needless to say, I didn’t get to sew.

However, because I was so fascinated by the finger knitting Layla was learning yesterday, I wanted to get some yarn and try it myself.  I went to Michael’s last night and found some gorgeous yarn:

I am going to work on this tonight while I watch TV – should have a picture tomorrow!  And now...

The Giveaway!

As promised, here is the information for my first giveaway!  Winning is not hard- just leave a comment on THIS post by 9pm (PST) Tuesday, January 8th, 2013 – if you leave it on another post, I may miss it.  Write anything – tell me where you’re from, if you have cats, or even just a “Hi, Laura!” will do it!  I really just want to know if anyone is out there paying ANY attention to me!  (Sad, huh?)  I will put everyone’s name in a box, draw someone at random and announce the winner Wednesday, January 9th.   (Please don't post anonymously - I need your user name to make the big announcement!)

Now, I’m sure you want to know what is up for grabs- I figured with Valentine’s Day coming, surely someone out there would like to have this:

This is a half-yard cut of the cutest heart print- you can’t tell in the picture, but it sparkles!  Cotton fabric, approximately 43” inches wide.  Perfect to make something for that special little girl in your life!  There is also a brand new, never opened bag of heart-shaped felt buttons, in shades of pink and red – 20 buttons in the bag.  Mine is a smoke-free home, but I do have cats – I have kept this material in a sealed bag except to take a picture of it, so I don’t think it has been compromised!

In addition, the winner will receive a copy of my late brother’s book.

This book is about time travel, and it’s kind of a juvenile fiction type book, so it can be enjoyed by all ages.  I realize that sci-fi is not everyone’s cup of tea – all I ask is if you aren’t into this kind of reading, please pass it on to someone you know that is.  I really want to make this book visible to the world, because $1 from the sale of every book goes to dementia research, which is what my brother Kelly died of at age 55.  If you would like to know about him, please visit www.RememberingKelly.com

Everyone is eligible for this drawing, except the people that live in my house.  I will even mail it overseas- it would go on a slow boat, but it would get there eventually!

Good luck to everyone!  Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Hi Laura,
That finger knitting is just like loom knitting. Easier to do a big piece on the loom (cheap at Wal-Mart) then sew the finger loom strips together if you wanted a larger piece.
I love the Boa yarn. Those yarns that are harder to crochet or knit with bad eyes are loomable easier!
    Smiles,
    Rebecca

    1. Thanks, Susan! For any and every one out there - check out Susan's blog at http://starwoodquilter.blogspot.com/ - she did a fabulous series of quilt blocks based on her grandmother's 1916 diary - really wonderful reading!

    1. And you have just hit upon the reason you are not eligible. If you tell me that you want to learn to quilt, it could be different! LOL
