Random Notions – Cover #3 and a New Project!

Success! I actually got the last sewing machine cover finished.  The pattern I used was the same as for the first two from Clothesline Chronicles.  I was a little confused because the footprint of this machine is a bit odd-

I over cut the materials just in case I had to do some fitting, which I did.  I also wound up piecing the shell fabric, since I couldn’t get one continuous piece of the right size.  I’m okay with it-

Thought maybe later on I could find some interesting trims to cover the seams  -I saw some really cute shell buttons, so maybe I could do something with those.  I guess it will just be considered a work in progress.

Today I took Mom to Hobby Lobby and of course we gravitated to the fabric department.  I did not know that Hobby Lobby puts patterns on sale – I figured they were like Walmart who just says the patterns are 40% off every day.  The McCall’s patterns were on sale for $1 each and I love pattern sales.  Now I am the first one to admit that I have never been good at making clothes, but I found the cutest top pattern for a little girl-

-and I think Layla would love this, so I am going to give it a try.  After all, it says EASY on the envelope.  I will be making View B, the picture at the top, so she can wear it with leggings or pants.  I will have to get her measurements tomorrow so I can make the right size that she will be able to wear once the weather warms up.  The only issue is that even though I have so much fabric all over the place, I don’t have enough of the right kind for this pattern – it calls for lightweight to medium wovens and requires about 2 ½ yards.

So tomorrow I will rummage through Mom’s stash and try to find something suitable.  I’m excited about this cute top, but I am also very apprehensive.  Fingers crossed!

  1. Oooh good luck! you are brave. I'm still trying to get my courage gathered to knit a sweater. And also the money for the amount of yarn needed to make a sweater in my size. Maybe I'll borrow your idea and knit one for the small child person first. Genius!
